on our last night in laguna beach, i shared the bed with jonas. as we were snuggling to go to sleep we shared this whispered conversation:

me: your hair smells like the ocean.
jonas: my hair is NOT the ocean!
m: no, i mean you SMELL like the ocean.
j: I am not the ocean. mom. go to sleep.

*silence*
(seconds pass)

j: mom, the ocean smells like your hair...

that just melted my heart. he is such a sweet, tenderhearted boy.

i {heart} the beach

well, we're home. it was glorious. really. its nice to go on vacation. but its always nice to come home. but now i wish i were on vacation again. the weather here is crapola. and the beach.... *sigh*... the beach was so nice. the kids had so much fun catching crabs, looking for sea shells, and running away from the waves. i wish we could live in california.

and the workshop was great. images from it to come!

>> Monday, September 28, 2009 – scrapbooking

i'm so happy with myself! at the oscraps website they had a challenge for two of their designers, feifeistuff and paislee press. if you are into digital scrapping, you have to check them out. they are amazing designers.

anyways, i entered the challenge, which consisted of scrapping a photo that was blurry or otherwise not good. basically one you would have thrown away. so i chose a picture that jonas took of my belly. its a cute picture, it just happens that the focus is WAY off. he loves to take pictures, but i dont let him very often with my camera. so i was bracing the camera so he didnt drop it.

there was supposed to be 1 winner, but they liked mine enough that they gave a bonus prize to me! woo hoo! here's what they said... (i'm so flattered)

"and this one is special. Me and Liz love the imperfection of the photo plus the fact that it was taken by a 3 yr. old *sigh*...
It makes the blurry-ness and imperfectness that much more endearing and it totally captured the essence of our challenge!!!
So we decided to give an extra prize to tanalicious!!!

literacy

as i was doing a family photo shoot downtown we came across this book that had been left outside. it was so random and i dont know why, but i thought it was so fascinating..

so, everyone loves peanut butter on apple slices, right? well, who doesnt love peanut butter and chocolate together too? so i figured, you cant go wrong with all three.. maybe its just the hormonal cravings of being pregnant, but seriously. it was goooood.

the best book i've ever read

The Book Thief : Markus Zusak.

i've never read a better book. if any of you have read it, i want to know what you think of it. and if you havent, i highly recommend it. seriously. this book is so amazing. the way the author uses descriptions and the aspect of the narrator, its just so engaging. and heartbreaking . i've read it twice now. i finished it up while i was at work yesterday (on audiobook) and i was wiping tears away while i was typing. im sure the keyboard was a little soggy by the time i was done. and i hoped that nobody would notice that my eyes were red. but i'd read it again in a heartbeat. some books are good, but once i've read them, i'll never read them again, or i find the characters irritating. but i love all the characters in this book. they have such personality and it hurts my heart to think of how the story ends. but its such a thought provoking book, and i loved it. i would suggest it to everyone.

1st year album

i've been working on mia's scrapbook for her first year, and i've finally finished it! i thought it turned out pretty good.

we took jonas out with his new clubs the other day for a little practice. its so funny to watch. and mia really likes being our gopher. although she doesnt really see the need to use clubs.

hmmm..

okay, so. occassionally i get a hankerin' for an old movie from say, the 90's. a few months ago i watched Titanic. i had all the expectations of it being as wonderful as when i was, what, 16? well, sadly. i was disappointed. it just seemed a bit cheesy. it was still a good love story, but seemed sort of silly as an adult.

so yesterday, i decided to watch Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. and, again was disappointed. i guess i just shouldnt have such expectations. i mean, okay, so kevin costner is supposed to be this 'robin of locksley', who lives IN ENGLAND, but nobody thought that it would be a good idea for him to have an english accent? i mean, come on? nobody caught that before they sent it into theatres? and i know it was the 90's, but honestly, did they have mullets back in King Richard's time? NO. everybody else looked ragged and poor, but nooooooo.. not kevin costner. we'll give robin hood a mullet because thats what is hot right now. bleh.

maybe i should just stick to current releases.

i did these pictures a few weeks ago for my sister in law. she had a new baby so we snapped a few family ones as well. isn't her daughter beautiful? i love the look on her face.

her new little man is pretty handsome too. a few more here.

so i was downtown and had a few minutes to spare. i thought i'd run over to temple square and see if i could get a good picture of the temple. i think this one turned out pretty good.

(i just wish that the colors and contrast wouldnt get so washed out on blogger!)

unimpressed

so. i know i'm behind on this, but i just watched twilight last night and was so unimpressed. am i the only one who HATED this movie? i loved the books, but seriously. the casting was bad, the acting was bad, and it was so disjointed. i really wanted to like it but i found myself just wanting it to be over already. i know that nobody probably even reads my blog, so i'm on my soapbox for myself, but seriously. i was really disappointed.

this parody is the movie in a nutshell - only with better acting and funny.

i {heart} summer

i love summer. sure, i might complain that its hot. i'm sweaty. it's hot. and did i mention, it's hot? but, it's much better than dreary old winter. and when you have a waterpiller, who cares how hot it is!

oh. the whining.

you know. they really are sort of cute. i think i'll keep them around. even though i have had more than enough tantrums, no's, wild kicks when a certain someone doesn't get his way, and whining. oh, the whining.

i didn't know girls could be so dramatic this early? really? it starts now? but alas, i can't help but love them. when jonas says, mama, i your best friend, my heart melts, just a little.
